How Hillary may have already destroyed the Dem’s chances in ‘08
The longer Hillary Clinton runs for the democratic nomination, the clearer it becomes that we will have another 4 years of McCain. For almost a decade now, the Democratic party has torn apart its chances at the presidency, and now, in 2008, it’s worse than ever before.
Hillary Clinton, who has long since lost the primary to Barack Obama, is continuing to fight, tossing aside any concerns over the welfare of her party or the welfare of the nation in a sorry attempt to destroy her opponent. She has relentlessly campaigned for John McCain in the past few months: constantly praising McCain’s experience and military record, while decrying Obama as deficient and unprepared in comparison to McCain and herself. Hillary is employing the Tonya Harding strategy to full effect; if she cannot have the presidency, no democrat will.
In 2007 Hillary and her campaign were full-set to deny Michigan and Florida all their delegates if they moved their primaries ahead of schedule. 14 of the 15 deciding votes were from Hillary’s campaign itself, and the rest were well aware Hillary was the front-runner, and even the presumptive nominee at the time. Now that Clinton finds herself behind Obama’s insurmountable delegate lead, Hillary has suddenly turned to decrying the decision. She compares those who want to follow through with the rules she agreed with and promoted to racists and sexists who denied women the vote, and counted blacks as 3/5th of a person. The behavior has been absolutely shameless, and the mainstream media has stood back and failed to call her out for her 180° sudden turn of “principles”.
Some of you might think, “sure, she’s behaving detrimentally to the party, but will it really be all that big a deal? Will Hillary supporters really refuse to vote for Obama?”
I’ll leave you with this scene from the DNC Rules and Bylaws committee. After the committee announced that half the delegates from Michigan would be seated, this spectacle occurred (source: NYT):
Supporters of Clinton jeered the decision, loudly booing and hissing the members of the group as their faces were shown on a large screen in the room.
One woman, wearing a blue “Team Hillary” shirt, shoved a man in a suit and tie with a small Obama button on his lapel. Another woman in a white Clinton shirt hung her head in her hands.
“That was a crime!” a man shouted. “McCain in 08! McCain in 08!” a woman yelled from the back of the room. “No-bama! No-bama!”
Hillary’s creation is alive, and the presidency is ripe for John McCain’s taking.
